The newest rumour at the Chetwynd mill is that all staff have to have vacations done by Oct. 18. Not sure why, but that is a new rumour, and some support staff is now back at the mill. Senior Management has also told the C.E.P. Western Region V.P. that they intend on restarting the mill, but guess what Tembec, your quickly losing Steamplant people to Oil and Gas, and Maintenance people are also fleeing.

Found out that Tembec is touring a group of Chinese clients through the mill this week, I would assume to either buy production or the mill. Funny how they didn't even think about inviting the union out to be part of the tour.

Hello Local448, At the Pine Falls Mill the Waste Water Treatment operators and the Steamplant operators as well the maintenance personel are all leaving slowly but at a steady flow if this continues thus mill will not start up. It looks like there is a window of about 3 - 4 weeks before it will be to late. It also looks like the employee's are standing their ground and will not back down to the vicious contract cuts that Tembec is attempting. Management is looking very stupid at this point and corporate is looking like they are blinded by stupid management commitments to deliver an impossible promise. Check out my post on the Pine Falls forum and you will see what I mean about this situation.

I have been told that the Union Executive meeting with Mill Management is now going to include a Tembec bargainer guy. God help them if they even think about putting a roll back on the table.

Looks like "bargaining" is to start soon on the new contract soon. Management says they MUST have a long term agreement. Looks like they want another terrible (for the members) 7 year start up contract. They may also be trying to lock out the employees in negotiations to prevent having to pay severance.

Bargaining is scheduled to start on December 6, 2009. LET me make this clear, your UNION Bargaining Committee is not going to entertain any rollbacks, what so ever. We are going for stronger language than the crap they threw at us 7 years ago! If they want long term, they will pay for long term. We are currently set to give them a 2yr contract, so we can match up with the Western Region Pulp Pattern

local448 the funny thing about the chinese tour was at the same time we had a group of chinese look at the temiscaming site, they said they were there tour the mill to see if they wanted us to make pulp for them, but the rumours of them buying us were floating around. we haven't heard anything of us selling them pulp yet

I agree, we were told that they were touring all the operations, but it did give us some hope. We haven't heard any more on them yet either. We are however starting to see some former customers slowly return since start up.
