I think the mills will start up eventually, but not all the mills, all shifts, or full time. I also think that all of us should stick together, learn from Cranbrook's mistakes and protect yourselves from future indefinite shutdowns including what the fingerjoint may be currently going into.
There's an election going on right now and a precedence about to be set in Cranbrook. Now is the time to push for stronger labor legislation concerning temporary or indefinite layoffs so that companies like Tembec can't take advantage of gray areas like unlimited shutdowns with only a 2 year recall.
Hopefully you won't have to say shoulda woulda coulda when all is said and done here.

With the companies proposed 10% wage cut and current chip and pulp levels, i dont think that the mills can plan on going back until late May at the earliest!!! Lets just hope that all the tradesmen havent left for more stable employment!!!

All the logs in the Yard are going to dry Up and be worthless. So I think we will go back fairly soon to at least clear those logs and maybe the logs in the bush out, then shut down again.

We are all being done over by the masters of the art-- plus the company lawyers. Tembec is trying to take all it can with no intention of ever returning the favour. Its time to stand up and be heard boys and girls. Its only going to get worse--not better. These clowns are relentless

so no one know when sawmill will startup and is it true that Tembec told the pulp mill guys they will have another 8 weeks off this summer. It would be nice if Tembec could be honest for once in there life . They just do not care about any of there works and hopefully they will go under and another company will be this division. This is there most profitable division yet they run unprofitable mills back east and then want us all to take cut does not make sense

Its time for all the contractors and union members to kick up a storm...there was alot of money put away for such things like this.300 million dollars...where is the money now to keep the employees working....i guess if were not working they won't be either..soon... we'll see them in the Unemployment line...

I have also heard that the pulp mill will be down again this summer. I heard they are only starting up to fulfill a contract then will be down again. Rumor has it that there's a chance Elko may start most likely to supply some chips. Tembec was trying to secure chips from Spray lakes mill and the Canfor Radium mill so they may not need to start any sawmills. Looks like everyone needs to settle in for a long lean summer.
If the unions, contractors and suppliers could all get together we could tell Tembec what the deal is going to be rather than Tembec dictating to us how things are going to be. That kind of unity may be a pipe dream but maybe that's the direction we need to go rather than sitting around waiting for Tembec to throw us a bone.

If the Canadian Economy was still doing good and the mines in Sparwood area were still hiring, Tembec would still be running. Maybe on A short week (work share) or full bore. They are using the Economic Crisis to shut us down because they know there are NO jobs out there that pay any decent wage. So the chance of employees leaving is slim to none. That is why we are down!!!

With the pulp mill taking 8 more weeks down and the company planning to chip our logyards, why would we go back at all...."a company of people building their own future" ? i think not!!!

Tembec BC division would be better off bought out by West Fraser. Tembec doesn't relize what they have!!!! (Dumb Asses)

I'll say that I believe that the sawmills will be firing back up June 1, 2009 for four weeks. Then shut down with the Pulp Mill for July and August.

June 1st is very optimistic!!!!! Why work us when Tembec can sell our logs and chip our log yards...they apparently dont care about the workers who made them millions when they first took us over!!! its all about the $$$$$$. maybe the company should be run by people who know something about the industry rather than the pencil pushing accountants in the office down east!!
