Thanks for making this forum and adding Temiscaming!
As the first thread in this forum stated, Tembec wants to give our yard jobs to a contractor.
Our Union called a meeting for this Weds and it looks like the membership is pretty P.O.ed (as they should be).
Tembec got wind that we are trying to determine if this is a strikeable issue, and called an information meeting for Tuesday (today).
After listening to Yvon Pelletier, I'm convinced that it's a huge screw job.
He had no concrete numbers to support his 9 page, powerpoint presentation. He would spout figures that supported his arguement in a vaccumm, but when compared to real world statistics, he came up looking stupid. He often said that he didnt have that info, when asked for specifics about the plan.
By the end of the night, he had taken a verbal beating from our union reps, as well as many of the members.
It was the biggest waste of time I have ever been a party too. He didn't have anything to add that we hadn't already heard, and couldn't support the arguement, that it would save money.
And yet, he claims he worked on this for the last 6 months! At his salary of 337K per year, that's a whole lotta nuthing, for a whole lotta cash!
Solidarity Brothers and Sisters.

This all sounds so typically Tembec. These people that are running the company are real winners. In Cranbrook we had the BC Human Resources manager, Tom Kirk, tell us directly to our faces at a meeting in April 2006 that we would get our severance pay when we were finished working at the Cranbrook Planer. The same guy sat across the table from us last month after we had all been terminated and told us directly, "we're not going to pay severance".
What ever you do in Temiscaming, don't take their word for anything. Get anything they have to say in writing. Human Resources Manager Tom Kirk and President of the Forest Products Group Dennis Rounsville told us, in Cranbrook, that we would receive our severance pay when we were finished working repeatedly over a span of almost 2 years. They even put it to us in the form of "we want to give you all the information to make an informed decision" about our future with the company. During meetings about our severance over the past year Jen-Luc Carriere, Vice President in charge of Western Canada Forest Products Group, Could only say "where is this in writing" when told about all the statements and assurances of severance we heard for almost 2 years. So take it from a Tembec executive, get it in writing.
Hopefully we can all learn from each others experiences dealing with this slippery company.
