Hey! That's almost the same thing Cranbrook Planer workers were told two years ago: "a couple of extra weeks of downtime". Some of us are just a couple of weeks away from being terminated for our right to recall expiring because we're close to two years without a single shift.

I agree that Tembec should be paying proper severance and bite the bullet for the closure of the Cranbrook Planer.
But the current economic situation is not the same as dealing with the Cranbrook planer. Lumber cannot be sold, and mills are closing everywhere due to the extremely bad U.S.A. housing situation. Galloway lumber remains shut down due to this economic storm. It was only a matter of time that Tembec fell because of the duration of the economic downturn.
Our forest industry is more sensitive to economic problems, but now other industries are also failing. We can only hope the world wide effort of governments can stop or slow this economic recession.
