Cranbrook Employees Terminated

Well good ol' Tembec has started sending out termination letters to Cranbrook Planer employees. No severance of course. This is the way this scum company works. Let's be clear here, before anyone calls Cranbrook employees whiners. From 2004 through 2006 the company, in particular Tom Kirk kept telling the employees about severance. When asked directly after almost 2 years of severance talk about the severance Tom Kirk assured the Cranbrook Planer employees that the severance would be there for us when we were finished work. The company told us in meetings that they wanted us to make informed decisions about our future and part of that information they provided us was the promise of severance when the planer was finished. Now they are getting rid of us with out paying any severance. It has become clear that this is how this company operates. This is not the only place they have tried this. Fortunatley for workers in Ontario the provincial labour laws prevented Tembec from screwing over the workers at Smooth Rock Falls. Remember the paper mill in Louisiana? I don't think any of them saw severance. On and on it goes with this company. I know some call us whiners and stupid for staying at the planer but what will you do when they pull this at your mill?

And where the hell is union solidarity? That's how these companies get away with this crap. I won't get into this now, the Tembec knife in my back is starting to hurt again.
