Here is a news item found on the B-104 (local Cranbrook radio station) web site at www.b104.ca/news.php?fpID=8 Funny, I haven't heard the last part about the Cranbrook Planer terminations on the on air news broadcasts. 2009-10-07 Tembec Still Struggling Tembec operations in the East Kootenay are still struggling as a result of the weak american housing market. The Elko and Canal Flats mills are operating, but the same can't be said for the Cranbrook Planer Mill and Finger Joint Plants, which are shutdown. Vice President of Tembec's BC Operations Jean-Luc Carriere says the company is keeping close tabs on the markets and will analyze them on a monthly basis. At this point, a number of workers at Cranbrook's planer mill have received termination letters, with more of the workforce expected to receive their notice throughout October and November.
