Yves Fricot, legal counsel for the Buchanan Group of Companies, has told the media that the provincial government of Ontario is about to give Terrace Bay Pulp a $25 million loan.
The loan is expected to help the mill complete financing, make arrangements with creditors and eventually re-open operations.
Ontario has yet to make an announcement regarding the loan.
With pulp prices increasing, the mill workers and union officials in Terrace Bay are eager to get the mill reopened.
"It’s a world-class mill with a world-class labour force," Fricot said. "It is able to produce pulp in world-class volumes. So it has all of the tools necessary to be successful in the long-run and if it was operating today it would be making money."
How can the Government continue to feed this person? We are not blind.
And where do you think the people are that ran these mills?
If you can start a chain reaction I will be the first to admit being
wrong.
Thanks for your time.

Buchanan Forest Products owes the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources
as much as $26 million in stumpage fees.
At one time, the amount owing was as high as $40 million. The company
was involved in a repayment plan that reduced that number significantly.
"For the longest time, people were not aware of what we have done
for the sawmill," Bill Mauro, Member of Provincial Parliament for
Thunder Bay - Atikokan said. "We differed their stumpage costs to
help them stay viable. Their industry has no market so we have been
deferring for sometime so they can have cash and maintain
operations."
Come Monday, none of Buchanan's operations will be running.
