Tembec shuts down Kapuskasing sawmill for 1 month Jan 20, 2009 | In Mill Closures & Layoffs | Send feedback »
Tembec shut down its sawmill and chipper at its Spruce Falls site in Kapuskasing, Ontario on Monday.
The closure is temporary and is aimed at reducing the finished goods inventory and the amount of wood in the yard.
The planer will continue to operate on two shifts for the month.
When the sawmill reopens, both the planer and the sawmill will be reduced from 2 shifts to 1 until market conditions improve.
60 workers have received layoff notices.
