Thanks to Tembec Marathon Pulp declared bankruptcy last night at midnight leaving the employees without benefits. A lot are wintering in the USA. There will be little or no severance package. Good luck and watch your back!
They have also extended the shutdown in Hearst another 6 weeks
Buchanan continues to cut on the mills limits, The license belongs to Marathon Pulp, go figure!

First off...thank you to those that started this site, it is a great way to vent! Yup, Tembec/Trimback whatever really gave "it" to us at the Marathon Mill. The sad thing, is that we (at least some of us) could see what was coming a couple of years ago and were powerless to stop them. Tembec has a consistent history of "purchasing, pilfering, and closing mills". Tembec dictated where we purchased our chips (no discount) who we sold our pulp to (at discounted price) recorded Capital Maintenance Expenses as Operating Expenses, did minimal maintenance and when the mill was depleted (workers and equipment) they pulled the plug! I have of the school of thought that our local employees must share a little of the responsibility....for years most of the mill's population felt and believed that we were "Top Heavy"... we were constantly told that we are the smallest mill, yet we boasted possibly one of the largest ITS Depts(7 people) whilst H.R. have a healthy number of 5. I am aware that the entry level HR clerk earned more per hour then a Millwright,Electrician, Machine Tender, Bleach Plant Operator and Digester Cook!!! The training/schooling to perform any of these jobs certainly trumps that of an entry level Clerk(non-union). If the entry level salaried HR Clerk earned more then our top operators...What the heck did the intermediate to top salaried of this Dept earn...I dread to think! How these "Rats" can sleep at nite, knowing that the pensions of all (Retirees included) is subject to be reduced, is beyond me...there is no humanity left.
