Did anyone think about the 10% roll back and severance??? If we took the 10% and only worked for a couple months, if the company never opened up again would we also lose 10% of our severance package?? do we not get severance based on our last wage??? so lets say for instance, you get 25.00$ per hour now, and you agreed to a 10% cut that would be 22.50$ per hour...base that on your severance..7 days per year of service that is a load of money!!!

This is a very real concern and one that was discussed amongst Cranbrook Planer workers when we first heard about the 10% cut request. Sorry but I have no firm answer to that but something we need to know.

That 10% rollback was a non-starter anyway. All it was to do was try and get 10% back without bargaining for it. The condition of us running was based on an 80 cent dollar and lumber being $170. Don't look now but the dollar just about hit $0.84 today and lumber's at about $160.
As for the severance, unless they get that fixed in the contract they'll never fully close the mill anyways (like the Cranbrook Planer) and we'll never get severance.

One thing to remember to bring up, each and every time anyone talks to Tembec managment, and for everyone to post so that Tembec managment can see, when they sneak a peak at this site, and they do. Tembec always has and always will continue to, ask for wage and benifit roll backs from it's workers. Just how much has Tembec managment, right from front line supervisors to the top brass in "that other country" given up in their wages , benifits and multi million dollar salaries, bonuses and benifits? I for one am willing to bet "NOTHING", because they will be taken care of when the company goes under, which is where it is headed. Remember everyone, this company has no intention of "Taking care of it's employees" and could give a good rats ass about any of us. I can attest to that. " A company that cares about it's employees" is just a meaningless slogan dreamed up by some over paid PR jerkoff to make us think they care. But if you look closely, they don't, and never will. You're just a number that can be replaced with ease.

The best thing that could happen to Tembec is to file bankruptcy and West Fraser pick it up and let the honest people do their job. Tembec's so called contract isn't worth the paper it is written on. I think the union should start a class action law suit against them for breach of contract at every mill affected by these clowns. There is no reason for a cut in wages for trucking as in Alberta[for West Fraser to be exact] they are making $1.00 + more per tonne hour. Where is the justice on that. Then to expect the trucking contractors to insure their trucks for 2 weeks of work and take another lay off. Tembec should take a long walk off a short pier. Let someone have this outfit that knows how to treat their employees properly. I would like to be able to box those ears in Quebec that should be almost burnt off now for having no respect for their employees. It is amazing how many people still think they are the best, maybe these people should crawl out of the bubble they are living in and actually take a look at all the BS Tembec is trying to slither by them. Wake up people you are going to take it up the royal pooper.

Was told today that the Pulp Mill secured a contract for their pulp meaning they're not taking the July August downtime. The September shutdown is expected to be 2-4 weeks so maybe the sawmills will be working longer.
