May is a significant month for Cranbrook Planer employees. This month marks 2 years for the first of our workers. This means that seniority retention starts expiring for our people and we are no longer Tembec employees. Does this mean Tembec has won the severance game? We must assume so. By November of this year most of the Cranbrook employees will be gone. It's been over 17 months since the Planer ran the last of it's lumber. During that time the employees have tried pushing for a resolution by bringing attention to our situation in the media and by direct agitation against the company only to be told to be quiet by our union no less. For over a year the union keeps telling us there may be something coming from the company or there is going to be another meeting with Tembec in a few weeks or whatever. Tembec just keeps stretching out the time. Days and weeks turn into months and years and we still sit with nothing and now it's hard to get anyone to listen because the Cranbrook Planer closure is old news. No company likes bad publicity. So take it from us, if you find yourselves in the same situation as us, and it looks like the marathon pulp workers are there, being nice quiet obedient laid off workers does not get you anywhere with this cutthroat company. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!
