Many of us have been union members and workers in the forest sector for many years. We have reaped the rewards of being unionized for a very long time and when we do work, make a very good living. I am wondering, why as union members, are we not supporting our fellow brothers in the Cranbrook planer. We should be standing up and supporting them. These individuals have given up many years and have been through strikes so we all can benefit. Why arent we walking off the job and supporting them??? We are all in this together!!! Who from the plants or the union office is going to grow a set and stand up for the people that got us what we have today?!?!?!

Thanks for this posting. With a company like Tembec they are dependent on people not getting together to do what they do. Tembec has a track record of doing whatever they can to cheat employees out of severance. Not only would we hope others would support us in Cranbrook but we also look at it as a struggle not only for ourselves but for others who's mills are yet to be closed. The question remains who's next with Tembec. I can say for several of us in Cranbrook that this fight has become about right and wrong and the principals involved with an unethical cut throat company like Tembec and it is not just about the money we are losing personally anymore. If we can show some solidarity and go after this unethical company and change their ways it will not only benefit the Cranbrook employees but others in the future.
Having said that, Cranbrook Planer employees are planning a protest at the Cranbrook Tembec office on Thursday November 26. This will mark 24 months that week since the planer last ran and for most of us the expiration of our seniority which means we are terminated. We are hoping for support from other Tembec employees. More details will be posted on this forum as they are worked out.
We have asked the question "why does Tembec do this?" And really the best answer we can come up with is "because we let them."
