It was good to see a rally at the Tembec Cranbrook office. It needs to be said loud and clear that the right thing to do for Tembec will be to pay the severance pay due to the Cranbrook Planer workers. In the same afternoon this rally took place, the Elko Plant Committee also expressed its frustration with Tembec Labour Relations. We asked the company to come forward, do the right thing, and pay severance to the Cranbrook Planer workers. The Committee stated is time for Tembec to end its negativety in the workplace, against our Cranbrook brothers and sisters, and in the community as a whole. Elko Union-Management Meeting Notes for Nov. 26/09 now posted on our site. It includes a summary of the Tembec Labour Relations issue, including a recommedation that Tembec pay Cranbrook Planer employees their severance. You can read a short summary of what was discussed in the last item of our Union-Management meeting notes online at- elkoecho.blogspot.com/ Also noted in the press was a good letter of support from our area's NDP Candidate, Troy Sebastian, as he challenges our MLA, Bill Bennet, to take a stand for these planer workers.
